E-Book & Presentation Design
Designing slide decks, presentations and e-books require an understanding of color, composition, and typography. Additionally, to accommodate digital surfaces, accessibility must be considered and addressed.
As more and more content begins to surface online rather than print, we must reorient our view to be within screen, rather than a magazine. The same foundational rules of art and design are applied. However, we must also consider variation in layouts to accommodate the online reader. Part of this reason is to keep them interested.
For decks and presentation, I consider the amount of copy shown as there is likely an accompanying voice to further carry a message. For e-books, content is important, but determining what audience we are speaking to is also vital. This is where user experience and empathy should come into play. How are people consuming this? Are they clicking or scrolling? Is the subject educational or for entertainment purposes? Does imagery help or hurt? Could animation and motion add value?
These are all things I consider in editorial design.
The below example would be a presentation person would digest on their own. All content, context and details are given in the presentation alone so there are no barriers to consumption and understanding.
